  • 2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg large egg
  • 0.25 cup melted butter

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 1.5-quart baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Pour batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Spoon bread is best served warm. You can add cheese, herbs, or other ingredients to customize the flavor.
