  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Preparation Steps

  • Make sandwiches by layering ham and cheese between two slices of bread.
  • In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
  • Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  • Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  • Serve immediately, optionally dusted with powdered sugar and with jam for dipping.

Notes

This sandwich is best served warm. Powdered sugar and raspberry jam are traditional accompaniments.
