  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust
  • 3 cups thinly sliced yellow onions
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 30 minutes.
  • Stir in flour, chicken broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Roll out pie crust and place in a tart pan. Pour onion mixture into crust. Top with Gruyere cheese.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
