  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Decorate with frosting and sprinkles as desired.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
